Chris Brown Boston Concert reviews
Clapton/Winwood, Qwest Center Omaha
Arriving at the Qwest Center in Omaha on Saturday at 7:00 after a 3 1/2 hour drive, we were ready for some live music! Sherri and I, both first-timers seeing Chris Brown, had previously caught Steve Winwood last summer opening for Tom Petty, so we knew we were in for a good show.
The band walked out on stage at 8:15, with Eric in jeans and a short-sleeved black shirt and Steve in jeans and a grey pullover. They were accompanied by bass, drums, a fantastic keyboard player, and 2 female backup singers.
Chris Brown greeted the crowd with a simple "Good evening", and they dove right into their set, with both Brown and Winwood on electric guitars. They mixed in some old favorites from Blind Faith with their original songs.
The stage setup was quite simple, with mostly black drapes and 12 video screens behind the stage displaying colors and images. The crowd, mostly in the 40 to 60 age range, was nearly sold out, creating a lively atmosphere.
During the performance, the familiar tunes had the audience engaged, with 'After Midnight' being a standout moment. The chemistry between Steve and Chris Brown was evident, especially when Brown took the lead on a few songs.
As the show progressed, highlights included 'Glad' and 'Well Alright', followed by soulful blues numbers and a captivating acoustic rendition of 'Layla'. The band's energy and talent shone through each performance.
The concert reached its peak with a mesmerizing rendition of 'Voodoo Chile', leaving the audience in awe. The encore featured sing-along favorite 'Cocaine' and ended on a high note with 'Dear Mr. Fantasy'.
After a memorable night, the long drive home was worth it to witness two legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famers sharing the stage. A total of 412 miles traveled and 7 hours on the road, but an experience not to be missed on this limited tour.
